GM began installing 40,000 charging stations in the United States and Canada


Since the end of 2021, General Motors announced a charging program for its dealer network, in order to expand access to EV chargers. so far almost 1,000 GM dealers have signed up, which is equal to a quarter of all in North America.

Registrants choose 10 charging stations Level 2 to install in key locations.

Wheelers Chevrolet GMC in Marshfield, Wisconsin became the first agency to participate, having chargers installed at two parks, a library and a sports complex in the area. Another dealer is Memorial Healthcare Wellness Center in Owosso, Michigan.

Those would be just the first, as Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Ohio and Washington prepare to install theirs in the coming days. It’s worth mentioning that Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealers will see the program open in January.

This program is an effort to increase access to EV chargers by GM. The ultimate goal is install 40,000 Level 2 charging stations in the US and Canada, doubling those currently available. GM selected FLO for its community charger program, and the company built the equipment at its first US plant in Michigan.

«Our dealers are deeply involved in and trust their communities and are well positioned to determine locations that will expand access to EV charging.” said Hoss Hasani, Vice President of GM EV Ecosystem.

It is worth mentioning that this expansion includes an investment of almost $750 million to offer facilities to customers. It also includes the collaboration of Pilot Company to build a fast charging network along US highways and to work with EVgo to install 3,250 fast chargers across the country by 2025.
