It has a light bulb that can be seen on the roof, above the windshield. It is here where the sensors, the camera and the radars of the EX90. According to Volvo these never “get tired or distracted” and are backed by high-performance mainframe computers with in-house developed software.

The system provides a constant 360-degree view and can even see small objects hundreds of meters ahead to give the driver more time to react and avoid them. The EX90 It is also the first model of Volvo factory equipped with all the necessary hardware for unattended driving in the future.

Powertrain of the new EX90

The immense dimensions of EX90 leave enough space for Volvo install a large 111 kWh battery. Initially, there will be a double motor electric train with two permanent magnet motors, one for each axis. In the most powerful version of the SUV, the maximum system power is 496 Hp (370 kW) and 671 lb-ft (910 Nm) of instant torque.

Volvo promise a estimated range up to 300 miles on a single charge, although this has not been certified by the EPA yet. There’s no word on maximum charging power, but the company says it takes around 30 minutes to get the battery from 10 to 80% state of charge.

Volvo EX90 interior and technology

The Swedish manufacturer also proudly expresses that the EX90 it’s not just a new generation SUVit’s also “a highly advanced computer on wheels” that’s “more responsive and enjoyable” than ever. Volvo partnered with Snapdragon to use the visualization capabilities of the Unreal Engine. This is the same 3D tool developed by Epic Games that underpins some of the most advanced video games, for the computing power and display graphics on board the EX90.

Built-in Google features such as Google Maps and other Google Play apps can be controlled from the 14.5-inch center display. In addition, the standard 5G connection provides a constant data flow for all the applications running on the screen, including music streaming services.

Also standard is phone key technology, which turns your smartphone into a car key. When you approach the car with your phone in your pocket, it will automatically unlock and load your personal profile with a preset seat, climate and other settings. The EX90 is also the first Volvo equipped with integrated headrest speakers as part of the Bowers & Wilkins audio system.

The new EX90 It is now available for pre-order at USA. Detailed pricing information is not available, but Volvo says a “well-equipped” model will cost less than $80,000. Pre-orders will transition to orders in the third quarter of 2023 with first deliveries expected in early 2024. The electric SUV for the US will be built at Volvo’s Ridgeville plant in South Carolina.
