The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 dynamits its tradition

They say that it may be the best sports car made in the United States and also the most powerful. With its eighth generation, Chevrolet has not only changed the layout of the engine: it also wants to break with tradition when it comes to technology… at least for the most performance versions of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, which promise to overcome the barrier of 1,000 CV.

Mark Reuss, president of General Motors, gave a conference in New York a few days ago and spoke of the future of the Chevrolet Corvette, assuring that it shows “the next steps for Chevrolet” and emphasizing that it has “unimaginable performance. His goal is to make it clear to the world what GM is capable of doing.” And for this they have designed a powerful roadmap: never better said.

The future of the Chevrolet Corvette

If all goes according to plan, in 2023 the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray for which they have already registered the name: for GM it is more a GT than an extreme sports car. He would be in charge of replacing the Grand Sport and would be, at the same time, the first hybrid to arrive: according to what they point out, it will be equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 and will produce 615 hp with a maximum torque of 678 Nm and an all-wheel drive system. .

A year later came the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, which will have the same engine as the Chevrolet Corvette Z06: in this case, however, there will be supercharging. With the presence of a pair of turbochargers, it is believed that it can reach 860 hp and exceed 1,100 Nm of maximum torque. So much, perhaps, for the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that Tremec provides. No problem: the vendor has already announced that it is developing more variants.

The barrier of 1,000 CV

That same year, in 2024, it should arrive the electric version of the Chevrolet Corvette. Several months ago, Mark Reuss assured that it would be based on Ultium technology, which can house batteries of up to 200 kWh and power levels of more than 1,000 horsepower distributed among the four wheels.

A figure, that of 1,000 CV, which the model planned for 2025 could reach: the Chevrolet Corvette Zora, a name that he would have chosen in honor of the engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov, who is considered the father of the Chevrolet Corvette. Rumor has it that it would be powered by a new 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 (LT7HP1) with hybrid support: a combination that should break the 1,000bhp limit and produce up to 1,300Nm of torque.
