The first electric rally car arrives in Chile: the RX2e
Francisco Larrondo, the manager of Copec Voltex, indicated that: “This milestone consolidates our vision of the future and our commitment to accelerate the energy transition by promoting electromobility and new energies. We are very happy to be pioneers, bringing to the sports world a competition vehicle of 100% electric rallywhich positions us at the forefront worldwide”.
The vehicle has a high-strength tubular steel frame covered with a lightweight composite body. It is 4,050 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,500 mm high, in addition to weighing 1,290 kilos.
The suspensions are independent on all four wheels, they have a double front wishbone and a pushroad system on the rear axle, which is accompanied by adjustable shock absorbers. Meanwhile, the brakes are disc brakes with lightweight calipers.
Tailored for rally
The car was specially adapted for the rally, moving the battery from place to give space to a second seat for the navigator. This led to various modifications to the bodywork, in addition to redesigning components of the cooling systems, electronics, electrical wiring, as well as high-voltage drive axles.
The RX2e has a 30 kWh battery originally in the center of the car to maintain a 50/50 weight distribution, but which has been moved to the rear. For its part, the motor is provided by the two electric motors that permanently move both axles (4WD), this generates a joint power is 250 kW (335 Hp) and 510 Nm of torque.
One of the characteristics of RX2e is that competitors can manually adjust the amount of torque produced by: the total torque of all four wheels during the start, the front and rear motors, and the degree of regenerative braking on the front and rear axles.
The car will have its debut in the last two dates of the year of RallyMobil Championship, which will take place in Osorno from November 4 to 6, and in Biobío-Concepción from December 1 to 4. The pilot who will drive the electric will be Francisco «Chaleco» López.
