Toyota presents the Hilux Revo BEV Concept: the possible electric version of the new generation of the pick-up (+ Images)

The toyota hilux is a compact pickup that is currently not available in the USAbut it is one of the pickup trucks best-selling small in the world. Now in its eighth generation, the hilux offers a selection of different four- and six-cylinder engines depending on the region. So far, there is no fully electric model, but it is likely that there will be a battery-powered model in the future. And it is not an assumption, because Toyota It has just unveiled a prototype Hilux electric truck, signaling a possible next production model.

The Japanese manufacturer is celebrating its 60th anniversary of operations in Thailand, where a massive ceremony was held to mark the date. As part of the celebrations, Toyota unveiled the Hilux Revo BEV Concept in front of an audience for the first time, although they did not provide detailed information about the zero emission truck. What we have for now is a single official image and unconfirmed rumors.

The concept truck was introduced on stage by Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman and CEO Akio Toyoda, who hinted that at least some of the EV truck’s development work took place in Thailand, where the hilux It is a very popular vehicle. However, Toyoda did not provide technical specifications for the battery-powered truck, which shared the stage with the IMV 0 Concept, a prototype light commercial vehicle. Interestingly, the director expressed during his speech that “BEVs are not the only way to achieve the world’s carbon neutrality goals.”

Toyota also recently announced that it began work on a hilux powered by hydrogen after receiving funding from the UK government through the Advanced Propulsion Center (APC) for the development of zero emission vehicles.

Not much else is known at the moment, but Toyota will transform an existing Hilux truck into a fuel cell electric vehicle using its own second-generation hydrogen technology.


The aforementioned hydrogen powertrain can be found under the hood of the Mirai and in the Hilux FCEV, the hydrogen tanks will be stored under the cabin and the fuel cell stack will replace the conventional ICE mill in the engine compartment.
