Volvo EX90 2023, an unrivaled technological showcase to create the best electric SUV

Volvo has a new flagship. With the launch of new Volvo EX90, the Swedish firm ushers in a new era in its history as a car manufacturer, positioning this EX90 at the top of its range, just above the current XC90. We talk about a rolling technological showcase, a large electric SUV that promises to leave all its rivals behind in key aspects such as infotainment, connectivity or driving assistance. The time has come to meet the new Volvo EX90.

At Volvo they are already looking to a future where all their cars will be 100% electric (2030), which is why for a long time each new launch has taken a further step in electrification. However, the EX90 is an important leap forward in this strategy, as everything in this car has been designed and manufactured with the purpose of making the EX90 the best electric SUV in its classwhich means challenging cars of the stature of the Tesla Model X, the Audi Q8 e-tron or the Mercedes EQE SUV.

Sharing technology with the Polestar 3, the Volvo EX90 offers a more luxurious, comfortable and familiar vision

To achieve this, Volvo starts from the new SPA 2 platform built in steel and aluminum, an architecture shared with the Polestar 3 and which has been designed to be compatible with different propulsion systems, but where the 100% electric propulsion has been specially optimized. . Proof of this is that the EX90 will feature a 111 kWh gross capacity lithium-ion battery, 107 kWh net capacity, powering an electric motor on each axle. This scheme will be offered in two variants, a first version with 414 hp and 770 Nm and a second version with 517 hp and 910 Nm. Autonomy can reach 600 km under the WLTP cycleallowing recharges of up to 250 kW in alternating current.

In terms of design, the EX90 is a clear evolution of current Volvo aesthetics.. There are no major changes or a radical break in the style language, making this large SUV bear a certain resemblance to the current XC90, although showing a more modern image, with smoother lines and better aerodynamics with a Cx of 0.29.

Exactly the same thing happens inside, as Volvo’s design philosophy continues to give life to a minimalist and very cozy interior. In addition, it now has up to 48 kg of recycled materials for its manufacture, which makes it more sustainable. The Volvo EX90 will only be sold in a 7-seater configurationdistributing these in 3 rows of seats.

And we come to the highlight of this SUV, which is none other than its great commitment to technology. For starters, the EX90’s infotainment system has two screens, a ultra-panoramic digital instrument cluster and one 14.5″ center touch screen. At the hardware level, the latest batch of Qualcomm Snapdragon processors are used to ensure the best performance and 5G connectivity, the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine to guarantee the best viewing quality and the Android Automotive software to have an interface equipped with completely updated Google services and apps. In addition, the EX90 will be compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

But there is still more. The Volvo EX90 will hit the market with an advanced driving assistance system managed by the Nvidia Drive platform and a Lidar radar located on the front windshield. This new generation of security systems will be capable of detecting pedestrians at distances of up to 250 meterseven driving at high speed, allowing a level of level 3 autonomous drivingbut being able to go further once unattended driving is regulated.
