2021 Toyota GT-86
Although there were many reports suggesting that this small sports coupe will be discontinued, a completely opposite statement from the company. The second generation will come, as a part of Toyota’s efforts to return to its sports roots. The new Supra is here and now it’s turn for new, even better GT-86. According to the latest reports, it will come in a year or two. At this point, we will call it 2021 Toyota GT-86. Of course, we are counting on the new Subaru BRZ as well, as this company should supply a lot of parts for the new model.
- Completely redesigned.
- Significantly more powerful.
- Excellent handling and performances.
- Possible AWD version.
- Could be more expensive than the current model.
We expect to see cooperation between Toyota and Subaru once again. According to the latest reports, the new model could ride on Toyota’s new TNGA platform, while other reports suggest Subaru’s new modular platform.
In any case, we count on a proven recipe, which in practice means rear-wheel drive and lowest possible center of gravity. Of course, we count on a completely new styling as well. Of course, we will see a couple of body style once again and there is no doubt that new aesthetics will be heavily inspired by the recently revived Supra.
It seems too early to go in details with this aspect of the 2021 Toyota GT-86. Still, we may presume that the overall layout won’t be much different. The overall cabin design shouldn’t be much different, though we count on a completely new interior looks. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is a new dashboard design and we presume that the new one will also be driver-oriented and relatively simple, without too many flashy details.
One of the biggest changes should happen under the hood. It looks like the new 2021 Toyota GT-86 will get significantly more power. We count on a new engine and latest reports are suggesting Subaru’s new 2.4-liter turbo-four. In practice, this means significantly more power, considering that the new engine is pretty efficient and delivers around 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.
With such numbers, we can expect nothing less than spectacular performances and a perfect drift machine. As we already mentioned, we count on an RWD layout, but if the platform comes directly from Fuji Heavy Industries, it won’t be a surprise to see Subaru’s legendary AWD system in the offer as well.
2021 Toyota GT-86 Release Date and Price
The 2021 Toyota GT-86 has been officially confirmed. However, we are still waiting for more details about the launch. The new model is still in an early stage of development, so we probably won’t see it before 2021. Given the new turbo engine, the new model will probably feature a little bit higher base price compared to the current generation, which starts at around $27,000.
