2021 Toyota Hilux
The current generation of the iconic pickup truck has been around since 2015. Two years ago, we have already seen a facelift. Considering that the things are going pretty fast, it’s no wonder that many reports are suggesting a complete redesign already for the 2021 Toyota Hilux. However, we don’t believe this will happen. A couple of updates are possible, but we definitely don’t expect a complete overhaul that soon.
Among possible changes, some of the first things that come to mind are new interior features, improvements in terms of safety and driver-assist systems and maybe a couple of visual updates. Other than that, things should remain pretty much the same.
- Excellent for off-roading.
- Strong performances.
- Wide engine offer.
- Unparalleled reliability ratings.
- Some rivals look more upscale from the inside.
- High starting price.
When it comes to the exterior design, we don’t expect too many changes for the 2021 Toyota Hilux. As we already mentioned, the current generation has already received a facelift two years ago. For that occasion, we saw a couple of novelties at the front, so bigger changes shouldn’t come before the complete redesign.
Speaking of the redesign, we presume it will happen in two or three years. The Japanese manufacturer is developing a new, modular body-on-frame platform, which will be used for next-generation Tacoma and Tundra models.
The Hilux has never been too much stylish and luxurious from the inside, so we don’t expect anything different from the upcoming model either. The 2021 Toyota Hilux will continue with the same base cabin design, characterized by rather functional than stylish solutions. Still, we could see a couple of updates, particularly in terms of new color schemes and a couple of additions to the list of standard equipment. Some of the things that come to mind are updated infotainment system, additional safety systems and more.
This aspect of the truck definitely won’t change before the redesign. The 2021 Toyota Hilux will continue with the familiar engine in the offer, though you should keep in mind that the lineup drastically differences depending on the market. For example, the European-market version comes with a smaller 2.4-liter turbodiesel only. In Australia, you can also count on a bigger 2.8-liter turbodiesel, which delivers 177 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. In some markets, you can even get an older-generation 3.0-liter unit.
Of course, gasoline engines are available too. The base 2.7-liter engine delivers around 160 horsepower, while the well-known and proven 4.0-liter V6 is in the offer too.
2021 Toyota Hilux Release Date and Price
The 2021 Toyota Hilux should arrive sometime in late 2020. We don’t expect changes in price, which currently differs from market to market. In most cases, base models go under $25,000.
